Strength & Strech Anchor

Strength & Stretch

This hour long class "does a little" with every part of the body.

It varies weekly, always using breath, core work, stretching, and the resistance of your own body.

If you are recovering from injury, need to build balance, or simply need a gentle re-entry into exercise you can get moving again with Stretch & Strength.

Instructor: Sondra Dansby

Tai Chi Anchor

Tai Chi

Tai Chi has been proven to be one of the best ways to reduce falling.

This specialized program is intended to improve posture and stability, control of body position, gait initiation and locomotion, coordination of movement, range of motion around ankle joints, and lower extremity strength.

Instructor: Sondra Dansby

Basic Yoga Anchor

Basic Yoga

This emphasis of this class will be on the practice of posture, with focus on alignment, using props, Sanskrit names, breathing and meditation.

Appropriate for beginners, or any level student.

Instructors: Cindy Bender

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is a gentle yoga, using one or two chairs, rather than a mat. For most poses, the breathing and basic body mechanics are the same as in other yoga styles. It is easily practiced at home since no special chair is needed.

Chair Yoga is all about adaptability and so lends itself to creativity. You'll never be bored.

Instructors: Cindy Bender & Deb Rolfe

Iyengar Anchor

Iyengar Vinyasa

Iyengar Yoga creates a unique teaching environment that allows you to focus in the moment and “abide calmly in the body."

It differs from most other yoga styles in that:

  • Asanas are held longer, allowing mind-body coordination and deeper expansion.

  • Props such as belts, blocks, and blankets are used, making it accessible to most people regardless of skill level.

  • There is a strong emphasis on detail, precision, and alignment in posture and breath control.

  • Iyengar teachers actively correct the mis-alignments through words and touch.

  • There is a sequencing of poses to aid understanding and performance.

Certified Iyengar Yoga instructors are held to an unusually rigorous standard of knowledge and training. Successful completion of standardized , difficult assessments are required to attain the eight levels of certification from Introductory to Advanced Senior.

Instructors: Susan Carter, Sarah Nordin

Kundalini Anchor

Kundalini

The basis of Kundalini Yoga is the belief that a dormant energy lies at the base of the spine.

Rather than alignment, the focus is on freeing energy in the lower body and purposefully moving it upward. This is accomplished using specific mantras, breathing techniques, exercises and postures.
